What We Do For You
G.R.O.W.I.N.G. STEM
Giving Robots Out to the World Inspiring the Next Generation. GROWING STEM is our own non profit dedicated to providing robotics and engineering opportunities to underrepresented individuals all over the world. We create and send out our own learning kits with electronics and other mechanical components which can be used to assemble, program and customize a robot, providing STEM learning opportunities to individuals who can't get those same opportunities as easily.

Blood Drives
Knight Vision partners with Red Cross several times each year to do a blood drive for the Detroit area community. Students from the team volunteer to run the canteen and registry and use our knowledge of FIRST to do our best to help. Our most recent blood drive was on February 13, 2024, where we collected 28 units of blood. Our next blood drive is in July of 2024. To learn more about Red Cross, click here.

FTC District Event
On December 3, 2023, we hosted an FTC qualifier event in our gym for 24 teams. Teams participated in the Centerstage game and everyone had a blast! The music and excitement were bouncing off the walls while all the teams competed to get one step closer to championships. We have also hosted FTC events twice before this one, so it was great to host another.

FLL Expo
|
On May 22 2023, we hosted an FLL event on our campus to accommodate 10 FLL Challenge teams and 14 FLL Explore teams. In addition to running the FLL game, Cargo Connect, we also arranged several other engineering activities such as building bridges and towers to exercise and inspire the minds of the next generation of FIRST participants and engineers.

STEAM Faire
On November 4 2023, University Liggett School hosted our second annual community STEAM faire. STEAM, an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking, is an integral part of a University Liggett School education. The objective of this first-time event was to give children of all ages a forum for experiencing STEAM through more than 25 DIY make-and-take booths and live science demonstrations. More than 800 community members attended.

M.E. Initiative
|
To help achieve menstrual equity within the FIRST community, our team assembles kits of feminine hygiene products and puts them into women's restrooms during robotics events. Read about the national program on the left to find out more.

Community Outreach
We do a lot for our community on 3175, but this section is specifically dedicated to the smaller things we do to support those around us. In early 2023, our team made over 1500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to donate to those in need. This year, we are working towards accomplishing a similar goal, making sandwiches every Friday night. This Valentine's Day, we created custom robot-themed valentines that were delivered to the local retirement home, we did the same last year. In 2024, we are hoping to do even more for our community.

Mayfest
Mayfest is an event put on by one of our sponsors, R&E Automated, with a car show, live music, and local vendors. We set up a booth where we told people about Knight Vision and FIRST as a whole. We informed many about the wonders of FIRST and spread the joy of robotics to everyone who was willing to listen.
